TOLMEZZO. Happy ending to an online scam in which a Tolmezzo resident was involved. At the end of June, a citizen of Tolmezzo had turned to the local Carnian police reporting a scam suffered in April. After having purchased a video game console on the E-Bay online sales platform and paid 610 euros, the goods were not delivered despite the constant reminders addressed to the seller who, during the various contacts, used false personal details by showing an identity card not own.

Further complications, the seller used a mobile phone in the name of a Bangladeshi citizen to send the messages to the scammer and the payment for the goods was paid by wire transfer to an online account attributable to a card whose termination occurred immediately after the receipt of the money.

The agents of the judicial police nucleus of the local police, coordinated by the commander-in-chief Alessandro Tomat, then started a complex investigative activity, managing to trace the scammer, a twenty-year-old from Caserta, who was the owner and holder of the account on which the money.

The subsequent investigations, with the collaboration and support of the State Police Commissioner of Marcianise (Caserta), led to a search during which the sim card used by the scammer and the account contract linked to the card used to receive were found. the payment.

The twenty-year-old from Caserta, as a suspect for the crime of fraud pursuant to article 640 of the criminal code, admitted his guilt during questioning.

The story ended in the first days of December in a positive way for the citizen of Tolmezzo, with the restitution of the entire sum.

Commander Tomat highlights how it is absolutely necessary for citizens to always keep their attention high, as attempts at scams and deceptions are commonplace and increasingly subtle, hitting everyone without distinction.

Precisely to help combat this type of phenomena, the Carnic local police recently created, thanks to the funding of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia – Central Directorate for local autonomies, public function, security and immigration policies Local police service, security and immigration – and to the collaboration and experience of the IRSS an information booklet with some useful advice against scams and other problems, to prevent and deal with any pitfalls in terms of security. The brochure has been distributed and is available in the municipal offices of Carnia.
