The priest, originally from Bagnaria Arsa, was 97 years old: he served in the communities of San Leonardo, Ronchis, San Daniele and Farla
UDINE. A reference for the entire Udinese church that today one of its oldest priests mourns: Don Remigio Tosoratti died at 97 years old.
Born on 6 June 1924 in Bagnaria Arsa, in his very long priestly ministry Don Remigio served in the communities of San Leonardo, Ronchis, San Daniele and Farla. Always close to the world of youth, he was also awarded the honor of Knight of Scouting in 1963. But not only that: Tosoratti was a man of great culture, poet, writer and tireless scholar of local history.
Among the most senior priests of the diocese, Don Tosoratti was ordained on 13 July 1947 by the then archbishop, Monsignor Giuseppe Nogara. He began his priestly ministry in San Leonardo, in the Natisone Valleys, as chaplain: a position he held until 1953, when he was transferred to Ronchis di Latisana. From 1955 to 1979 he had instead been in San Daniele, rector of the Sanctuary of Madonna di Strada, where he lived an intense period of commitment and work as a teacher, educator and youth animator, following with dedication the scout group of the hilly area. Not surprisingly, in 1963 he was awarded the Knighthood of Italian Scouting.
In November 1979, in full post-earthquake reconstruction, he was appointed parish priest of Farla, a hamlet of Majano, where he carried out his priestly ministry until March 2016. A passionate historian, he devoted himself busily to research and the study of the territory and identity peculiarities of his people: numerous are the volumes he published.
The funeral will be celebrated on Saturday 7 May, at 11, in the church of Farla in Majano.
