More than 1,000 people gathered in Altona on Friday afternoon to demonstrate against racism. The reason for the rally is the threat to a family from Ghana.

The demonstration under the motto “Ottensen remains colorful – all together against fascism” filled the pedestrian zone in front of the Mercado shopping center. Residents from Altona in particular protested against the racist threat to a family in their neighborhood. Anti-fascist groups also took part, as did many sports clubs. FC Teutonia Ottensen wrote on a banner: “We have 600 young people from over 30 nations.” Altona 93 also called for people to take part in the demo.

Racist slogans on the apartment door

The demonstrators expressed their solidarity with a young mother who was racially threatened in her home on Griegstrasse. The Ghanaian lives alone with her two small children. On Monday morning, posters with racist slogans were hanging on her apartment door, some of which had the AfD logo on them. Additionally, her stroller was burned down in front of the house and there was trash on her doormat. The State Security Police are investigating.
