The yellow, blue and red, shone with his title of champion for Colombia in the Bolivarian Youth Games that were held in Bolivia, where also at the individual level of sports, athletics obtained the title and there with the group he was as delegate José Zapata, president of the Riscarraldense league of this sport, who undoubtedly lived a dreamed and unforgettable experience in Bolivian territory.

“It was a very satisfactory experience in all aspects, I realized that the development of athletics in the Bolivarian region is very high in terms of scenarios with countries that we believed were behind us, it is a lie since they are very developed. For example, the Bolivian capital has a very beautiful setting and what the different delegations comment on is that in their countries they have very technical spaces, which is what we are lacking here in Pereira,” said José Zapata.

Proud of the opportunity received

“Honestly, it came as a surprise to me. I never thought I would have the honor of representing my country as a delegate, but it was something extraordinary. I felt a lot of honor and pride for that assignment that the Colombian Athletics Federation and the Olympic Committee gave me by leading the team in these games. This only motivates me to continue working for my sport and for young people; for the children who fall in love with the most Olympic of sports and hope that my work as such helps to detect many talents and develop them.”

Adding more experiences in your sport

“The only thing I know is that I have done it with great desire, with a lot of love for the sport itself and for those children and young people who want to show that they are capable through athletics. It is a task that, despite being ad honorem and that few people can give their time to the development of this sport, I do it with great affection.”

“Sometimes you feel a little abandoned by the people who make decisions, because sport is still a beggar. At this point in the year with things that should have started in January and are still not given as support from private companies, which is very scarce. I make the call to them and also to administrations at all levels.”

Shared with Yesenia Sánchez

“Very happy to see the passion that this girl has for athletics. When I see that she did not achieve her desire to be a medalist, where she placed fourth and the analysis that we did together with the coaches who were in these games is that it is very difficult for a talent of Yesenia’s conditions, without having the best special conditions or the more developed as it is a scenario, a total accompaniment in terms of nutrition and supplementation, it is very difficult to compete with athletes who do have it,” points out José Zapata, president of the Risaralda athletics league and delegate of his sport in the recent Bolivarian Games. of Youth.
