Shandong Province Cracks Down on Economic Crimes, Arresting Thousands of Suspects and Recovering Billions of Yuan

In a press conference held by the Provincial Government Information Office on May 13, it was revealed that in 2023, the public security organs of Shandong Province investigated more than 12,000 economic crime cases of various types. They successfully arrested over 18,000 criminal suspects and managed to recover and prevent hundreds of billions of yuan in direct economic losses.

One of the key highlights mentioned during the conference was the success of “Operation Fox Hunt”, which is a special operation aimed at capturing fugitive overseas economic crime suspects. In celebration of the tenth anniversary of the operation, more than 370 economic fugitives have been apprehended by the Shandong Public Security Bureau from over 40 countries and regions. The arrest of these fugitives has resulted in the recovery of stolen money and goods worth hundreds of millions of yuan.

Furthermore, the public security organs in Shandong Province have been actively combating various economic crimes with a focus on protecting the people’s financial interests and ensuring national economic security. In 2023, special operations such as “Annihilation 23” and “Qingyuan” were carried out to crack down on offshore companies, underground banks, and bank card-related crimes. Additionally, efforts were made to combat tax-related offenses, illegal fund-raising activities, and enterprise-related economic crimes.

To address the ongoing challenges posed by economic criminal activities, the public security organs in the province are continuing to implement new strategies and mechanisms. They are using a combination of professional expertise, organizational structures, and big data analysis to enhance the quality and efficiency of their operations. Moreover, a renewed focus has been placed on cracking down on illegal fund-raising crimes, pyramid schemes, and fraudulent activities that target the public.

In Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province, the local Public Security Bureau has taken proactive measures to establish an integrated prevention, control, and handling mechanism for economic crimes involving the public. By implementing a system of early detection, warning, and disposal, the bureau has managed to uncover and address numerous economic cases related to the public, ensuring financial stability and protection for the people’s “money bags”.

As the province continues to tackle economic crimes and safeguard the economy, efforts are being made to stay ahead of emerging trends and technologies in the financial sector. By closely monitoring new forms of economic crimes involving blockchain, virtual currency, artificial intelligence, and metaverse, Shandong Public Security aims to develop targeted prevention and control measures to combat evolving threats and protect the interests of the public.
