2024 Spring Festival Travel Sees Record Number of Cross-Regional Personnel Movements
The 2024 Spring Festival travel season has seen a significant increase in the number of cross-regional personnel movements, according to the 2024 Comprehensive Transportation Spring Festival Transport Work Class.
On February 13, the 19th day of the Spring Festival Transport and the fourth day of the first lunar month, the total number of cross-regional personnel movements in the whole society was approximately 301.39 million. This figure represents an 18.2% increase over the same period in 2023. It also marks the first time in a single day that the number of people moving across regions across society exceeded 300 million.
The increase in cross-regional movements extended across various transportation modes. Railway passenger volume saw a significant uptick, reaching 12.927 million, an increase of 50.5% over the same period in 2023. Similarly, waterway passenger volume rose to 1.378 million, a 52.4% increase, while civil aviation passenger volume increased by 57.4% to 2.293 million.
Highway personnel movements also experienced a substantial increase, reaching 284.79 million, a 16.7% rise over the same period in 2023. This included 261.85 million non-commercial passenger car trips on expressways and ordinary national and provincial highways, a 16.8% jump from 2023. Additionally, highway commercial passenger volume saw an increase of 15.5% to 22.94 million passengers.
The soaring numbers reflect the high demand for travel during the Spring Festival. As families and friends gather to celebrate the holiday, the transportation network experienced a surge in activity.
