IVREA. The funeral of Paolo Carra took place yesterday (Tuesday 26) in the parish church of Palazzo, who died last Friday at the Ivrea hospital, where he had been hospitalized a few days earlier and his heart stopped beating due to the aggravation of a series of pathologies that afflicted him for some time. Born in Parma 83 years ago, he arrived in Canavese in the early 1960s, recalled from his work at Olivetti where he traveled his career up to executive level in the Legal Department. “In his youth – says, moved, his lifelong friend, Remo Iosio – he had been an active member in the Christian Democrats, of the current of Carlo Donat Cattin and Guido Bodrato, of which I was also a part, and a great friendship has always linked to Ezio Alberton. Thus began a political life which he concluded as President of the City Council, in the second term of Grijuela, from 2003 to 2008. He was also, among other things, the Ombudsman of the Municipality ».
“For several years, he lived in the city, with his wife Carla, a middle school teacher, and their four children, Andrea, Pietro, Giovanni and Caterina. Later, to offer his children the opportunity to grow up in a more spacious environment, he bought and renovated an old country house, in the Palazzo, where he later moved. In Ivrea we lived in the same street and, both of us loving the mountains, we used to rent, each one, a house in the Ayas Valley, in the summer and many times we found ourselves sharing pleasant walks on suggestive paths ».
«Even in the city there was no shortage of walks – continues Iosio -. When we worked at Palazzo Uffici, in fact, together with some colleagues, during the lunch break, we used to go to the Lo Scorpione bar, in Corso Nigra, for coffee and talk freely about every topic, before returning to the office. Small rites between friends, which today translate into vivid memories of those who are no longer there. Paolo was a complex, rich and profound personality. Almost a brother to me, whom I will always remember with great affection ».
A great lover of history and scholar, Carra had published several books and essays, including Millenium-Stories of the year 1000 in the Marca d’Ivrea and Gian Bernardo De-Rossi. Semitist and bibliographer.
