In L’Aquila the contagious enthusiasm of the Piceno Pop Chorus – News

Eighty elements from 20 to 75 years old, sopranos, mezzo-sopranos, contraltos, tenors and basses among semi-professional singers, students of singing courses, singers and simple enthusiasts: the Piceno Pop Chorus (Ppc) is ready to face the summer of 2023 after last year’s exploit, with crowded squares in the Marche and Abruzzo and an appreciated participation in the Mediaset TV program “Tu si que vales”. The first stage of the tour will be L’Aquila, Sunday 16 July, which follows the date zero ‘at home’, at the former Elettrocarbonium in Ascoli Piceno, and is included in the ‘Cantieri dell’Immaginario’ program. On the San Bernardino steps from 9.30 pm it will be difficult to remain seated and not get involved in the enthusiasm of these 80 voices.

“Usually when we talk about the choir we expect the sacred, the mountain, the church. We propose pop – explains the president Pier Paolo Piccioni – and in this way we manage to maintain a heterogeneous formation and to attract a varied and curious public”. It all started in 2017 in Ascoli Piceno from the collaboration of Giorgia Cordoni, singing teacher, with Piccioni, director of Musicandia, the music school of the Pio Istituto del Sacro Cuore di Gesù. Teacher Giorgia brings with her sister Sara, soprano, her mother Elena, mezzo-soprano, and her father Pietro who as a photographer begins to document each concert. And the group is joined, among others, by Tommy Pietropaolo, president of the Bar Association of Ascoli Piceno, the ceramist Barbara Tomassini, Sandro Avigliano, an imitator with a past in the Bagaglino company. Accompanying the voices is the young guitarist Marco Piccioni, joined at the microphone by the beat-boxer Andrea Cioccia. In the repertoire pieces of pop music arranged for the choir, medleys and mash-ups, a mix of very different songs. “The desire to entertain and have fun is the main link of the Ppc experience – explains Alberto Crementi, singer by passion, sports radio commentator of Lattemiele – Almost all the songs have a choreography designed to involve the public. And much of the credit goes to teacher Giorgia, who in live performances emanates energy and transmits it to us singers and to the spectators”.
