A project that will make it possible to ask for help through a messaging system
TREVISO. A project is underway in Treviso to give deaf people the opportunity to ask for help from Suem 118 through a messaging system. The initiative is the result of the collaboration between the Ente Nazionali Sordi (Ens) and Suem.
“The project – he says Marialuisa Ferramosca, primary of Suem – arises from the desire to overcome the difficulties that the deaf have in verbal communication, which plays a fundamental role in the management of both the telephone interview and the intervention: the 118 operator, in fact, in the ‘usual’ calls through a sequence of questions it evaluates the request for help, gives priority to the intervention and activates the emergency vehicles “.
Thanks to the project, the deaf person will be able to contact the 118 Operations Center through a dedicated telephone number, connected to the Suem tablet in which two messaging applications are installed, WhatsApp and Telegram. The personal data of the deaf enrolled in Ens, provided by the association, are entered in the rubrics of the two applications. The user, thus recognized by the system, in case of need can provide 118, via messaging, with all the useful information about the type of request, the place of the emergency, the type of problem.
