Representatives of more than 20 villages of the municipality of Colombia, Huila, joined in a peaceful demonstration in front of the facilities of the National Highway Institute (INVIAS) in the city of Neiva.
The peasants and inhabitants of the area demand an immediate solution to the deterioration of the roads that keep them incommunicado and hinder their daily activities, student transport and working hours.
For months, the residents of these villages have been denouncing the precarious state of the roads that connect their communities with the rest of the municipality. The poor state of the roads has generated serious inconveniences, especially during the rainy season, causing isolation and hindering access to basic services such as education and transportation.
Given the lack of response and action from the departmental authorities, the peasants and inhabitants decided to take action and go to the INVIAS headquarters. Carrying signs and chanting harangues, they settled at the entity’s door in search of a solution to their problems.

The demonstrators stressed the importance of having roads in good condition for the development of their agricultural and commercial activities, as well as to guarantee the access of students to schools and facilitate the transportation of workers to their places of employment. In addition, they expressed their concern about the lack of adequate maintenance on rural roads, which has generated constant deterioration.
The community hopes that their protest will be heard and that the competent authorities will take concrete measures to solve this problem.
While they waited to meet with Invias spokespersons, they set up a community pot.
They hope that a dialogue will be established between the representatives of the demonstrators and INVIAS officials to address the demands and seek short- and long-term solutions that will improve the road infrastructure in the rural area of the municipality of Colombia, Huila.
