The Dominican Republic Simplifies the Record Process for the Global Entry Program
The Office of Customs and United States Border Protection (CBP) has taken steps to simplify the record final process for Dominican applicants of the Global Entry migration program. The interviews for the Dominican applicants, who were previously conditionally approved within the program, were coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) and the General Directorate of Customs (DGA).
Six officers from the CBP provided assistance to facilitate the record final process for the participants. The meeting took place at the offices of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR). This initiative aimed to avoid applicants having to travel through a North American airport to complete the process and showcase the strong relations between the Dominican Republic and the United States.
The call targeted 1,000 applicants with conditional approval who coordinated their appointments through the CBP web portal. As of now, 5,103 requests have been received, with over 1,000 applicants already approved for the Global Entry program. Additionally, there are 800 conditionally approved applicants awaiting their interviews, while the remaining applicants are still in the validation process.
Rafael Henry, Supervisory Officer Program Manager CBP, praised the successful interview process and highlighted the smooth exchange of information with the General Directorate of Customs as crucial for the implementation of the Global Entry program in the Dominican Republic.
Mario Ramírez, managing supervisor of Trusted Traveler Programs at CBP, mentioned that more than 800 applicants were ready for interviews and conditionally approved. He emphasized the importance of the collaboration between Dominican organizations and CBP in strengthening national security and preventing potential threats.
Daniel Peña, deputy director of Customs, noted the significance of the cooperation between Dominican Republic and CBP in enhancing border security and safeguarding the country’s interests. He mentioned that the Dominican Republic has become the sixth Latin American country and the sixteenth worldwide to be part of the Global Entry program.
William Malamud, executive vice president of AMCHAMDR, commended MIREX, Customs, and AMCHAMDR for supporting the program and emphasized the trust that the US has in the country. He praised the efficient implementation of the program in the country and highlighted the benefits of Global Entry for travelers, including faster immigration processes and reduced waiting times.
Currently, Global Entry operates in 77 airports in the United States and offers benefits such as expedited immigration inspection and streamlined entry processes for low-risk travelers with valid North American visas. The program allows members to use kiosks and the Global Entry app for efficient entry into the United States.
In August 2023, the Dominican Republic joined the Global Entry program, providing expedited travel for low-risk travelers within the United States. The program aims to reduce wait times, congestion, and enhance the entry process for travelers entering the United States.
