It is not unusual for 7-year-old Australian Riley to come home with special stones. The boy grew up in an area known for gemstone discoveries. His parents have a small company that sells sapphires, so he was brought up with the knowledge.

A few days ago, Riley found a ‘stone’ a few hundred meters from his home that he proudly showed to his father. And he was very enthusiastic. The boy found a sapphire without too many inclusions, which could make it worth several thousand euros. According to his father, Riley really has an eye for it. “That looks really good, buddy,” his dad can be heard saying as he inspects the stone. “That is by far your best stone yet.”

It is not the first time that the Betteridge family has made a famous discovery in their region. For example, father Betteridge found an 834 carat sapphire near their home in 2022.
