Ivrea, against the smog comes the black box on board the car: maximum limit of km per year

Membership on a voluntary basis to reduce emissions. According to the polluting classes there is a limit in twelve months

The monitoring system for polluting vehicles by mileage also arrives in Ivrea, the first municipality in Canavese. Those who join the initiative will have a maximum limit of kilometers to travel during the year, once that ceiling has been exceeded they will have to stop using the car. A black-box installed on board the vehicle will calculate the kilometers traveled on all types of roads, every day of the year, 24 hours a day. Membership, of course, is on a voluntary basis.

It is called Move In (Monitoring of polluting vehicles) and it is a system that has already been adopted by the Lombardy Region and which will allow even the most polluting vehicles to circulate, but only for a set number of kilometers per year. According to the different types and pollutant classes of the vehicle, they range from 1,000 km per year for a Euro 0 to 10 thousand for Euro 3 (for Euro 4 diesel vehicles, adhesions are suspended until the end of the state of emergency by Covid).

Move In is particularly convenient for owners of polluting vehicles who do not travel many kilometers a year in areas subject to traffic restrictions. With the order signed last August 10 by the mayor Stefano Sertoli, Ivrea adopts a structural measure to limit the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere resulting from vehicular traffic, as required by the recent resolutions of the Piedmont regional council in implementation of the commitments envisaged. for the improvement of air quality in the Po valley. The new service provides that each participating vehicle is assigned a maximum limit of kilometers that can be traveled annually on the territory of the participating Municipalities (about thirty in the province of Turin), with the exception of the days in which the emergency limitations apply (15 September-15 April). Once this ceiling has been reached, the vehicle will no longer be able to circulate in the restricted areas until the end of the year of joining the service. It will always be possible to check the remaining kilometers via the app or the website. In the event of a roadside check, whether or not the mileage threshold is exceeded can be verified by the municipal police through a specific app.

«The participation in the Move In project – emphasizes the environmental sustainability councilor Giuliano Balzola – derives from the importance that everyone can and must give to the reduction of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. With this system, even older cars will be able to drive a certain number of kilometers in the restricted areas if owners adhere to the proposed system. The system has a first installation cost, including annual fee, which will be around 50 euros and, from the second year onwards, the fee alone should be around 20 euros / year “.
