Traders and residents write to Cafarelli: “It’s ugly and chaotic” “We are in the experimental phase, we will decide the final project together”

The benches, the flower boxes, the concrete bases, the unevenness of the paving of the new pedestrian area created along the external side (Caffè Gioberti side, so to speak), even the maintenance of the parking lots, which some want to completely eliminate (there are four for a fee, one loading unloading, one for the disabled). Residents and traders wrote to councilor Michele Cafarelli, who next week will see the Fagiolata del Castellazzo so as to take stock with a certain advance on what could be used in view of the next Carnival, to set up there, as always, the distribution of fatty beans. That the square, today, is not a beauty is there to see.
But it is Cafarelli who explains the meaning of the innovations introduced at the end of June. “What you see is an experiment, a sort of dress rehearsal that we wanted to do considering the limiting presence of the private yard on the inside”. For this purpose we used the street furniture that we already had in the house. The barriers, the planters, the bollard posts and the benches are pieces of warehouse, it made no sense to do a test by spending money on them. The concrete bases are the ones that cost less even when they are removed, this is the logic ». In short, the meaning is: let’s see how the bulk of the new restyling goes without committing significant amounts (“We spent a few thousand euros”), and then let’s get to the heart by talking about it with traders and residents. The commissioner insists a lot on sharing the next steps.
“Yes, of course. From which flooring we will put to which street furniture will be chosen, passing through the maintenance or not of the parking lots, which, once the scaffolding has been removed, will be able to count a couple of more stalls, I rely heavily on the opinion of the users of the square, shopkeepers and residents ahead. We will make the decision together ».
Phase two will begin as soon as the scaffolding of the building on the inside is dismantled. This aspect, of which even in the Municipality they know little. Hopefully by the end of the year, but it is an unconfirmed time indication. “Also for phase two we will have a trial period at the end of which if we are all convinced we will go to intervene definitively”.
The restyling project immediately saw the new road system fully operational: now it’s outfrom via Arduino it is only possible to turn right (abolished the left turn with a possible descent to piazza Borgoglio). Via Guarnotta in turn has become a one-way street with direction Corso G.aribaldi. Fewer cars in favor of greater pedestrianization.
