US President Joe Biden narrows the gap with Former President Donald Trump ahead of upcoming presidential elections
In a recent NBC News poll, US President Joe Biden has cut the lead of former President Donald Trump to just two percentage points (44%-46%), signaling a tightening race ahead of November’s presidential elections. This improvement comes as the majority of voters express negative opinions about both opponents, with the share of those expressing high interest in the presidential race hitting a 20-year low at just 64% of registered voters.
The survey, conducted from April 12 to 16, comes at a tumultuous time in American politics, with Trump facing a criminal trial in New York and escalating tensions in the Middle East. While Biden leads Trump on issues like abortion rights and unifying the country, Trump has an advantage on competition and handling inflation. Inflation and immigration are top concerns for voters, with only a third giving Biden credit for the improving economy.
Independent voters and those ages 18 to 34 are essentially tied between the two candidates, with potential complications arising from the independent candidacy of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in the race. In a vote between five candidates, including Kennedy and other third-party candidates, Biden leads Trump by two points (39%-37%).
As the race narrows and tensions rise, the upcoming presidential elections are shaping up to be a highly contested and unpredictable event. Stay tuned for more updates as the campaign season progresses.
