Wang Yi Visits Cambodia to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

On April 21 to 23, 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Cambodia. During his visit, Wang Yi met with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, Senate President Hun Sen, and Prime Minister Hun Manai. He also co-chaired the seventh meeting of the China-Cambodia Intergovernmental Coordination Committee with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister Sun Zhantuo and held talks with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Song Jinda.

Both sides reaffirmed their strong friendship and commitment to deepening the China-Cambodia community with a shared future under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and Cambodian leaders. They discussed the progress of various cooperation projects, including the “Diamond Six-sided” cooperation structure, the “Industrial Development Corridor,” and the “Fish and Rice Corridor,” which have provided tangible benefits to both countries.

China reiterated its support for Cambodia’s development path and opposition to external interference in its internal affairs. Cambodia, in turn, reaffirmed its adherence to the one-China policy and opposition to any form of “Taiwan independence.” Both countries agreed to strengthen defense cooperation, combat transnational crimes, and promote economic cooperation, including the implementation of the China-Cambodia Free Trade Agreement.

During the visit, the two sides signed cooperation documents in the fields of infrastructure and inspection and quarantine. They also attended the release ceremony of the new Chinese-Cambodian literal translation of “The Customs of Chenla” and the launching ceremony of Cambodian coconut exports to China.
