[Epoch Times September 03, 2021](Epoch Times reporter Xu Jian comprehensive report) The tension between the United States and China has spread to the field of climate cooperation. The US Climate Envoy John Kerry who visited Tianjin this week and several others When the senior officials of the Chinese Communist Party were in talks, the other party suddenly changed the subject. They mentioned that the United States should respond to a series of political issues raised by the Chinese Communist Party. It seems that the Chinese Communist Party is not concerned about the climate, but asking the Biden administration to make concessions on US-China relations.

The US President’s special envoy for climate change Kerry began his visit to China on September 1, hoping to encourage the two world powers to cooperate more closely on the issue of climate change. On Wednesday (September 1, 2021), Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Kerry who is visiting Tianjin via video.

However, the theme of this climate cooperation talks does not seem to be “climate.” Wang Yi changed the subject, saying that the overall environment of Sino-US relations is currently in serious trouble.

Wang Yi told Kerry that in order to improve the situation in which Sino-US relations are in serious trouble, the US should take practical actions, including paying attention to and actively responding to the “two lists” and “three bottom lines” proposed by China.

The so-called “two lists” and “three bottom lines” were put forward by Wang Yi during a meeting with the visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Sherman in Tianjin in July this year. The content included asking the United States not to be in Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Taiwan and the South China Sea. “Interference in China’s internal affairs and damage to China’s sovereignty and security.”

In the evening, Kerry also met with Yang Jiechi, director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Communist Party of China, via video. Yang is the highest official in charge of foreign affairs at the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Yang Jiechi also talked about Sino-US political relations with Kerry, the “climate ambassador.” According to CCP media reports, Yang Jiechi accused the US of causing “serious difficulties in Sino-US relations.”

Reuters reported on September 2 that Kerry said that the climate crisis has nothing to do with politics. He urged the Chinese Communist Party leaders to fulfill their climate commitments. “My response to them is that climate has nothing to do with ideology, without party affiliation, and it is not a geostrategic weapon.” Li told reporters on a conference call in Tianjin.

Kerry said that the United States and China will continue negotiations before the next round of global climate negotiations in Glasgow in November.

Although the Biden administration regards combating climate change as one of its main domestic and foreign policies, US officials have stated that they will not weaken the US for condemning the CCP’s violation of human rights because of climate issues.

A senior Republican member of the U.S. Congress, Michael McCaul, issued a statement warning Kerry not to trust the words of a genocidal regime, not to sacrifice the value of the United States, and not to forget the bad record of the CCP’s failure to abide by its promises.

China is the world‘s largest emitter of greenhouse gases. It has promised to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality by 2060, but it has not formulated a plan to achieve a carbon peak by 2030. China’s 2060 target is ten years behind similar targets in the United States and the European Union.
