macOS 14.5 and iOS 17.5 on the way to release: Fast beta cycle has begun | News

Tue, 7:08 p.m. · Software · fen With the third beta that has just been distributed, Apple is entering the next phase of testing macOS 14.5, iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5, watchOS 10.5 and tvOS 17.5. There were only two weeks between the first and second builds, but now only seven days have passed. Getting started with the fast pace means just fine-tuning small details and preparing for the upcoming release. This is likely to occur together with updated Apple hardware; according to several reports, new iPads will appear in three weeks at the latest. There are several references to the devices in iPadOS 17.5, but not yet in iPadOS 17.4 – which suggests a typical Apple market launch in the same week.

The innovations known so far
As part of the Digital Market Act, further adjustments to iOS are pending – including with regard to apps via websites. The normal store infrastructure is still used, but this eliminates the need to go through a store front end. Apple is also implementing a feature to detect trackers in the area, even if they are not AirTags. For Vision Pro users, there are improvements to the “personas”, which can now sit together around a table as a virtual discussion group. Apart from the points mentioned, no far-reaching adjustments have been noticed so far.

The current beta versions
Finally, the well-known list of currently available beta versions. As always, there will be a public beta a day later, but users with a free developer account have also been able to access the builds for some time now. You can see directly from the letters at the end of the build number whether it is still an early development phase – the higher the letter, the further away the final version is. As always at the beginning of a beta phase, you will find a letter at the last place that indicates some work before the release. A week ago it was the “e” on macOS and iOS.
