On the 7th, the government announced a strict response policy to illegal and safety-related violations related to industrial actions by the Asiana Airlines pilots’ union.

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport decided to strengthen measures to respond to air transportation-related crises as the Asiana Airlines pilots’ union initiated a law-abiding type of strike through the launching ceremony of the Dispute Countermeasures Committee.

When the Asiana Pilots’ Union failed to narrow the gap with the management over the wage increase rate, 1095 union members participated in a vote for and against industrial action from the 23rd to the 28th of last month, with 874 votes in favor, over 92%. .

Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs has upgraded the existing crisis alert from the ‘attention’ stage to the ‘attention’ stage according to the Air Transport Paralysis Crisis Response Working Manual. In the warning stage, the operation of the Emergency Response Headquarters, headed by the head of the Aviation Policy Office, begins. If there is a strike in the future, it will be upgraded to ‘warning’, and if the strike lasts for more than 20 days, it will be upgraded to ‘serious’.

In addition, it plans to request related organizations, such as airport corporations and airlines, to operate their own emergency response team, and conduct intensive monitoring of the air transport status, such as the labor union’s industrial action trends, aircraft delays, and safety operations.
