Moba: leprosy cases dropped from 267 to 146 in 4 years

by admin

Cases of leprosy diseases fell from 267 to 146 between 2019 and 2023, in the territory of Moba (Tanganyika).

This new report was delivered by the supervisor of leprosy and tuberculosis in the Moba health zone, Philippe Ndaïle on Friday January 12.

However, he pointed out that this pathology is still far from being eradicated in this corner of the country:

“For several decades, the territory of Moba has experienced the persistence of leprosy endemicity. However, from 2019 to 2023, we are witnessing a dramatic decline in leprosy cases. In 2019, we recorded 267 cases, and in the year just ended 2023, we recorded 146 new cases. With these numbers we have, we are still very far from eliminating leprosy as a health problem.”

He also pointed out that care for leprosy patients is ensured and asked patients to report to our health services on time.

« As soon as suspicious signs of leprosy appear. Treatment is free in all state structures », continued Philippe Ndaïle.

Leprosy remains much more endemic in villages located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, including Kapakwe, Moba port, Regeza, Murungizi.
