This year Expofestival will open its doors free of charge to locals and tourists at the Unicentro shopping center in Valledupar, from April 30 to May 4, 2024, within the framework of the 57 Vallenata Legend Festival, which this year will be held in tribute to Iván Villazón.
Thanks to the more than 647 ventures registered in the largest business showcase in the Colombian Caribbean: Expofestival. The town festival in which locals and tourists alike enjoy the culture, folklore, but also the tourist, gastronomic and artisanal offerings of Valledupar, the city of the Holy Kings and the epicenter of the Vallenata Legend Festival.
In its twentieth version, Expofestival will include the Entresierras-Corazón del Planeta Intercultural and Tourist Festival with the aim of establishing a platform for the exhibition, promotion and conservation of the ancestral cultures settled in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá; the same ones that created vallenato and the folk music that was born before the accordion. In addition, the meeting seeks to highlight the Afro contribution through the drum and its traditional songs in the mountains and riverbanks of Magdalena.
This festival aims to exhibit and promote the rescue of the exuberant customs, dances, music, costumes, crafts and cuisines of the region known as ‘El País Vallenato’. There will also be academic events and forums aimed at analyzing everything related to the Afro-descendants who contributed the funds and promoted everything that is known today as eco- and ethnotourism in the region. All this, supported by the tourist attractions of the two ecosystems, as well as the indigenous cultural wealth, which is expected to become an additional and interesting attraction of the traditional and successful Expofestival fair.
During the Entresierras ‘Heart of the Planet’ Intercultural and Tourist Festival, exhibitions and competitions will be held. However, this first contest will be dedicated solely and exclusively to the first purpose, that is, to hold cultural samples and exhibitions during Expofestival related to authentic music that includes bagpipes, drums, maracas, dulzaina and guitar; the same as the dances, the gastronomic fair, talks about legends, myths and traditions, an exhibition on traditional medicine, a tourist exhibition, customs, costumes, among other elements of similar importance.
