“Wenling City Launches National Reading Month Activity, Promotes Reading Culture”
Wenling City, known for its dedication to promoting reading culture, has once again launched its National Reading Month activity. More than a thousand reading promotion activities are set to take place throughout the year, with a focus on spreading the joy of reading and appreciating the beauty of books.
At the launch ceremony, Zhang Youzhi, a student from Fangcheng Primary School and one of the city’s “Reading Promotion Ambassadors,” shared her reading experience. She emphasized the importance of seeing the world and oneself through reading, echoing the sentiments of Wu Peiruo, the city’s “Book Lending Master” in 2023.
Wu Peiruo, who borrowed a staggering 550 books in one year, highlighted the transformation reading has brought to her daily life. With reading becoming a daily necessity for her and her daughter, Wu Peiruo exemplifies the city’s goal of making reading a habit for all its residents.
Since the inception of the National Reading Month activities in 2011, Wenling City has been committed to promoting the concept of reading and establishing a four-level service system to support national reading initiatives. The city has launched various reading brands, established a reading promotion platform, and built numerous family library branches and farm bookstores, resulting in a significant increase in the number of books borrowed in the city each year.
In 2024, Wenling City’s National Reading Month activities promise to be more exciting than ever. The establishment of the “Bookly Wenling” reading matrix, comprised of municipal departments, state-owned enterprises, and other key stakeholders, aims to further promote reading culture in the city. The matrix members will collaborate to organize a series of reading promotion activities, both online and offline, to engage more citizens in the pleasures of reading.
The launch ceremony also recognized the outstanding achievements of five “Book Borrowers” in 2023, as well as six exceptional family library branches. Additionally, the success of the “Children’s Reading Plan” last year, which attracted over 144,000 participants, demonstrates the city’s commitment to fostering a love for reading among its younger population.
As Wenling City prepares to open its Municipal Cultural Center next month, with plans to gradually unveil the grand theater, library, and cultural center to the public, the city reaffirms its dedication to providing high-quality “spiritual food” for its residents.
At a critical moment in the city’s development, Wenling recognizes the power of reading in fostering ideological consensus, promoting cultural self-confidence, and driving social creativity and innovation.
