Moroccan Sahara: Pedro Sanchez reiterates Spain’s position of support for the autonomy plan

The President of the Spanish government, Pedro Sanchez, reiterated, Wednesday in Rabat, the position of his country supporting the autonomy plan, presented in 2007 by Morocco, for the settlement of the artificial dispute around the Moroccan Sahara.

Speaking at a press conference at the end of his working visit to the Kingdom, Mr. Sanchez reaffirmed the position of the Spanish government expressed in the Joint Declaration adopted on April 7, 2022, and the Joint Declaration made public at the The outcome of the work of the 12th session of the Morocco-Spain High Level Meeting (HLM), February 2, 2023.

He stressed that Spain’s position on the Sahara issue was clearly expressed in these two declarations which, it is recalled, consider the autonomy plan as “the most serious, realistic and credible basis” for resolution of this dispute.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God help him, received, earlier in the day at the Royal Palace in Rabat, Mr. Pedro Sanchez, President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain.

This visit is part of the continuity of the new phase of bilateral relations, which began since the meeting between His Majesty the King, may God glorify Him, and the President of the Spanish Government, in April 2022, and the adoption, on this occasion , of the Joint Declaration between the two countries.
