Controls were directed against several companies
The checks took place in the communities where former apartments from the former companies AltroMondo/Belnova are located. In the past, their housing stocks had often attracted attention due to housing grievances.
Control against “neglect of housing”
The campaign was initiated by the Ministry under the motto “Watch out, enlighten, clean up”. “In this way, we give tenants more support and make it clear that the state does not accept the neglect of living space in North Rhine-Westphalia,” explained Minister of Construction Ina Scharrenbach.
In the past, the controlled housing stocks were repeatedly conspicuous due to grievances. These included defective elevators and sanitary facilities, electricity and heating systems, broken apartment doors and windows as well as the littering of the outdoor facilities.
“What we saw on the spot was frightening”
In addition, the companies were in arrears with water, sewage, electricity and/or heating services. In addition, there was mold in many apartments. “Rats, garbage, mold: What we saw on site was frightening,” said Building Minister Ina Scharrenbach (CDU).
