Nearly 70,000 people have been forced to leave their homes and more than a million households are without water following the devastating floods that hit southern Brazil. The authorities announced this on Saturday.

In its latest bulletin, the Civil Defense added that a total of half a million people had been directly “affected” by rising waters in their homes in Rio Grande do Sul state.

The death toll from heavy rain in southern Brazil has now risen to at least 57. There are also 67 missing and more than 70 injured.
