Show jumper Hans-Dieter Dreher won the prestigious Riders Tour and is “Rider of the Year”. In the Neumünster Grand Prix on Sunday he was narrowly beaten by Philip Rüping.
In the winner’s lap, Rüping in the saddle of Baloutaire kept his nose just ahead of Dreher with Cous Cous (35.46) in 34.71 seconds. Hilmar Meyer came third with Orion ter Doorn (36.47) ahead of the Dutchman Bas Moerings with Jesther (40.04), who also made no mistakes.
Dreher was certainly able to get over the narrow defeat that day. After a flawless round, the 52-year-old from Baden-Württemberg had already been declared the overall winner of the Riders Tour before the decisive round, after his two competitors Patrick Stühlmeyer and Michael Viehweg made a mistake on the normal course. They missed the victory lap.
Before Neumünster, Dreher was just two points ahead of Stühlmeyer from Osnabrück with 45 points, Viehweg had 36 points and still had chances. “I’m super happy, my horse fought really well,” said Dreher after his triumph on Sunday.

At the Dressage World Cup, the local starters suffered an unusual defeat. In the free skate on Sunday, Matthias Alexander Rath’s best result was third place. Victory in the ninth of eleven stages of the series went to the Dutch Emmelie Scholtens, who received 81.565 percent for her freestyle with Indian Rock. The Swede Patrik Kittel secured second place with Forever Young (81.145) ahead of Rath with Destacado (80.425).
