Appearance would be »too political«
Selensky absolutely wanted to have his own appearance with a speech at the “Eurovision Song Contest” (ESC) that will be held next Saturday. The EBU, the »European Broadcasting Union«, rejected his request.

Basically, the annual »Eurovision Song Contest« (ESC) is held in the country of the winner of the previous year. In theory, this Sanges competition should be politically neutral. That this is nothing more than a vague theory was shown last year: the rather average contribution of Ukraine was crowned the winner. According to the regulations of the »European Broadcasting Union« (EBU), which is responsible for the competition, this year’s event should have taken place in Ukraine. Due to the war in the Donbas, however, the EBU decided to hold the competition this year in the English port city of Liverpool. Much to the annoyance of Selensky, who vehemently opposed this decision, but ultimately lost out.
Nevertheless, he planned to use the ESC as a platform for himself and his propaganda. After all, almost 200 million people watch the decision of the competition. Selensky wanted to make a speech in front of them. Rejected, decided the EBU. According to the official statement, his appearance was in all probability “too political”. This would “violate the rules of the event” and could therefore not be accepted.
Another defeat for Zelensky. On the other hand, the competition will not take place entirely without Ukraine touching their stomachs. The plan is for eleven Ukrainian artists to appear in the supporting program of the ESC and for videos to be shown about regions of Ukraine. Politically, that is really »very neutral«!!!
