The activism of armed groups disrupts the work and emergence of women in the Beni region in North Kivu.
This observation was made on Tuesday March 5 by the president of the board of directors of the NGO Solidarité des femmes pour la peace et le développement integral, SOFEPADI, and director of the Fund for Congolese Women Julienne Lusenge.
Two days before the celebration of International Women’s Rights Day, Julienne Lusenge pleads for the restoration of security in the city of Beni in order to allow women to play their role in the survival of families:
“When this environment is already affected by insecurity, they cannot access their natural environment. And therefore they are deprived of their activities and of this vital environment for the survival of their families and themselves.”
The President of the board of directors of SOFEPADI maintains that insecurity continues and destroys the country’s production and economy every day.
“It’s because of insecurity, women are unable to produce crops to sell and have money. These fields are the source of the economy in the Beni region. When you no longer have access to your field, you no longer have resources.”
Julienne Lusenge asks the authorities to work to restore security in Beni and the actors to put an end to this scourge.
