On Monday March 11, the Government provided food assistance to nearly twenty thousand displaced people in the Lubero territory in North Kivu.
The administrator of the Lubero territory, Colonel Alain Kiwewa, announced it the same Monday on Radio Okapi.
According to the latter, this action is a response to the influx of displaced people from localities in Rutshuru territory, fleeing the advance of the M23 rebels:
“We already have more than 20,000 war-displaced people who have no assistance and who are in host families, some are in churches and others in
schools. The Government has nevertheless made a gesture, it must in principle assist these displaced by war.”
The administrator of the Lubero territory reassures that security measures are being taken to protect the population against the advance of the rebels.
“We have a whole army that is in front of us, the army that has the duty to secure us and I am sure that they will secure the territory in a suitable way,” he said.
