North Korea reportedly tested solid-fuel hypersonic missile

North Korea tested a new intermediate-range solid-fuel hypersonic missile, state media said.

The goal of the launch was to test the reliability of the new high-thrust solid-fuel multistage engines and the controlled and maneuverable intermediate-range hypersonic bomb, according to KCNA.

This missile operation and the delegation’s visit to Russia come as tension between the two Koreas rises following Pyongyang’s series of launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles and its first military spy satellite, as well as the deepening of ties between Pyongyang. and Moscow, which have worried Washington and its allies.

The North Korean state news agency only published a photo of the projectile, apparently launched from one of Kim Jong-un’s residential compounds northeast of Pyongyang, the same place from which the intercontinental ballistic missile has been fired twice ( ICBM) and Hwasong-18 solid fuel.

It was indicated that it is an intermediate-range ballistic missile that can presumably reach distant bases in the United States.

It must be remembered that the North Korean regime already tested supposedly hypersonic liquid-fuel missiles in 2021 and 2022 equipped with highly maneuverable warheads similar to the one seen in the missile launched on Sunday.

On Saturday, state media announced this Saturday that North Korea will dissolve organizations in charge of civil exchanges with the South, in a new sign of the deterioration of relations between the two neighbors.

The decision was made at a meeting of “officials in charge of enemy-related affairs” on Friday to implement changes in policies toward the South ordered by leader Kim Jong-un during a major single-party plenary session in December, according to the KCNA news agency.
