PRESENT
The third Monday in January is known as “Blue Monday” or the “Saddest Day of the Year,” due to the sum of several factors that affect people’s emotions. This date has become an occasion to promote the adoption of habits that take care of mental health, boost mood and self-esteem that allow us to cope.
Researcher Cliff Arnal from Cardiff University developed a mathematical formula that determined this date as the saddest of the year, by taking into account variables such as weather, debts, monthly salary and the time elapsed since Christmas and New Year. This, added to the fact that January is usually a month of challenges, can become a difficult time to go through.
“To counteract the possible negative effects on the mood of this date, it is important to self-care and establish well-being routines. At Avon, as a beauty expert brand whose commitment is to build a better world for women, we promote makeup as a means of expression and image enhancer. In fact, according to the Report “Sácate la Duda: Self-esteem and Make up”, it was concluded that there is a direct correlation between the use of makeup and women’s self-esteem,” says Juan Posada, General Manager of Avon Ecuador.
According to the Avon study, it was established that 7 out of 10 women consider that makeup generates changes in mood, providing energy, security and connection. Likewise, 6 out of 10 say that makeup helps them express their mood. Therefore, it becomes a tool that plays a triple role in attitudinal terms: enhancer of personal image, means of expression and emotional catalyst.
Beyond the aesthetic benefits of makeup, 3 out of 4 women consider it an ally in relation to authenticity and feeling proud of how they look. Additionally, there is a very high incidence of categories, but lipsticks, eye makeup and nail polish stand out with a higher number of average products used by women as a means of expression.
Establishing self-care routines such as exercise, healthy nutrition, skin care and makeup are considered options that boost confidence and therefore improve mood. During this time we encourage taking actions and using tools, such as makeup, to improve our mood.
