On the 22nd evening at the Giacosa theater to celebrate the result of Ivrea, capital of the 2022 book

Everyone will bring their favorite book to donate to the community library. After 50 years, the Olivetti bibliographic collection will be cataloged and put online

IVREA. The first appointment for Ivrea Book Capital 2022 is set for 22/02/2022. A date that recalls the letter 22 typewriter, object-symbol of the candidacy. Next Tuesday, at 9 pm, the Ivrea players will be called to the Giacosa theater to celebrate this extraordinary result. Everyone can bring their favorite book and donate it to the community library.

“It will be a meeting to celebrate this very important event – explains the mayor Stefano Sertoli – where we would have the pleasure of inviting all the finalist colleagues and all those who wish to participate”.

The date of 22 February had been set in the candidacy dossier and will be respected, even if the timing of the proclamation, due to Covid, was scheduled for 30 November. «Now – explains the councilor Costanza Casali – we don’t have a minute to lose because the year has already begun. We will get to work immediately with the team that made the application to start with the program ». Some events have already been scheduled, others are being worked on. The Book Capital will move events for 1.2 million euros. 500 thousand euros will come from the Ministry of Culture, 100 thousand from the Municipality, the rest from sponsors and banking foundations. The program is structured in quarters of activity and will end in December, with the realization of the Manifesto for the future of the Book. The events that already animate the city will be an integral part of this new road, combining past and future, material and intangible heritage in a virtuous way. The events already known are the reading festival the Great Invasion, which has won a prominent place among the most important national cultural festivals, the jazz festival with its prestigious international guests, the Ivrea Summer Festival, the exhibitions to the Garda museum with the aim of enhancing the cultural and artistic heritage of the collection of Olivetti works of art. In September, “Twelve books for twelve months” will be inaugurated.

The dossier that gave Ivrea the title of Book Capital develops along three lines, which are the common thread of the events and projects proposed, representing as many directions (and sometimes contrasts) present in the publishing world: syllabic / iconic, which puts in evidence the relationship between image and word; physical / digital, which concerns the most material form of the book, but also the way to enjoy reading; quality / quantity, which concerns many aspects, from production to reading.

«In 2022 – adds the councilor Casali – we will catalog section A of the Olivetti bibliographic collection, donated to the city of Ivrea by the historic company in 1972 -. After 50 years we will be able to put it online at everyone’s disposal ».

The last event is scheduled for December with the realization of the Manifesto for the future of the Book. It will be drawn up in collaboration with the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, the world capital of books.
