On the streets of Kabul, after the Taliban victory (Video)

by admin

On August 15, 2021, the Afghan capital fell into the hands of the Taliban, twenty years after the United States kicked them out of power for giving refuge to the leaders of the Al Qaeda terrorist network, responsible for the 9/11 attacks.

The Taliban argue that the country is safer under their control, but the economy is in serious crisis as international aid has been cut. Cash is scarce and there are long lines of people in front of the banks in Kabul wanting to withdraw money.

Furthermore, part of the population is worried about the rigid vision of society imposed by the fundamentalist movement. Unlike in the past, the Taliban have promised to respect women’s right to work and education, but within an undefined “Islamic framework”. Many girls have already decided to abandon their studies for this.

The video reportage by Gabriele Micalizzi and Daniele Raineri.
