Over 1.72 million visitors! Zhuhai Immigration Inspection Station handles peak two-way passenger flow during Qingming Festival
During the Qingming Festival, which took place from April 4 to 6, the Zhuhai Immigration Inspection Station witnessed a record-breaking influx of visitors, with approximately 1.72 million person-times passing through the station. The three-day Tomb Sweeping Day holiday saw 90,000 entry-exit vehicles and ships inspected, marking a substantial increase of 48.47% and 67.02% compared to the previous year. Among the visitors, around 780,000 tourists from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan were recorded, signifying a year-on-year increase of 31.11%.
The surge in passenger flow was attributed to the holiday season, during which Hong Kong and Macao residents typically return to their hometowns for ancestral worship and family reunions. Additionally, the region hosted various activities, including concerts and shopping events, attracting mainland residents for cross-border travel.
The trend of Hong Kong and Macao residents traveling northward continued to drive the increased influx of visitors. The Zhuhai Highway Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge saw 270,000 inbound and outbound passengers and approximately 54,500 vehicles, marking a significant surge of 116.11% and 154.67% respectively compared to the previous year. Gongbei Port, known for its high passenger flow, recorded 929,000 inbound and outbound passengers and over 22,800 vehicles, showcasing a year-on-year increase of 33.23% and 18.75% respectively.
To manage the peak flow of passengers during the holidays, the Zhuhai General Immigration Inspection Station took proactive measures by issuing peak holiday reminders, deploying additional police officers, and opening extra inspection channels to ensure efficient customs clearance. The station also collaborated with professional volunteer service teams to assist passengers, particularly those with mobility limitations, in creating a safe and welcoming environment for all travelers.
