The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, has taken strong measures to address two critical problems affecting the country: sex tourism and the recruitment of mercenaries by drug trafficking groups. In a recent announcement during the ‘Government with the Popular Neighborhoods’ day in Cartagena, Petro ordered the Public Force to take urgent actions to confront these situations.
One of the main concerns expressed by President Petro is sexual exploitation in Cartagena and other regions of the country. Petro instructed the Public Force capture sex tourism pimps and drug trafficking lords who use the port of Cartagena for illicit activities such as drug trafficking and smuggling. In addition, he emphasized the importance of freeing Cartagena from extortion and smuggling, highlighting that these criminal practices affect the security and well-being of citizens.
“The role of the police is to capture the pimps of sex tourism, the drug trafficking bosses who use the body to export cocaine, the smuggling bosses who are using the port of Cartagena to attract contraband, and the extortionists and bosses of the extortion of Cartagena,” said the head of state.
