The president of the republic, Nayib Bukele, highlighted that El Salvador is a democracy, based on the results in which Nuevas Ideas did not obtain all the mayorships in the country, but it has mayors from allied parties.
«In El Salvador we live in a democracy and the people’s decision is respected. It is clear that in many municipalities people have voted for mayors who are not from Nuevas Ideas; “This is the vote of punishment for the terrible efforts that some of them have made,” said the president in his X account.
In that sense, the president recalled that the people know how to elect their rulers, and that therefore they voted in favor of the mayors who are allies of the New Ideas project, parties that have supported the changes that the country has needed.
On the other hand, the president explained that, for the first time, since the existence of the FMLN as a political party, they obtained zero deputies and zero mayoralties. While ARENA only managed to win one mayoralty, and the opposition parties, VAMOS and Nuestro Tiempo, obtained zero mayoralties.
«All the opposition together, barely managed to win a mayoralty. The parties that support our project: 43 out of 44,” added the president.
