Protest for access to adequate treatment for children with autism at EPS Sanitas

A group of people demonstrated in support of the ‘We support you’ Foundation, demanding that EPS Sanitas access suitable treatments for children with autism spectrum disorders.

The protest, which took place outside the Eps Sanitas building, sought to draw attention to the lack of adequate therapeutic services y limited access to control appointments with specialists for affected children.

According to Karen Jimenez, director of the foundation, currently Eps Sanitas cares for more than 350 children with this diagnosis, but “it has precarious IPs that do not have the necessary suitability to provide the required therapeutic services.” In addition, complaints have been filed for mistreatment and abuse in one of the contracted IPs, which has generated concern and discomfort among the parents of the affected children.

In response to these demands, Eps Sanitas issued a statement stating that they are working on reviewing the requests for three patients in particular, addressing specific issues related to each of them and proposing solutions in accordance with current regulations.

Likewise, they reaffirmed their willingness to continue with the working groups with the representatives of the We Support You Foundation and the patients’ guardians, agreed at a meeting held on July 7, with the aim of maintaining permanent communication.

The situation of access to adequate treatment for children with autism has generated concern in more than 300 families and it is estimated that in the Samaria population there are around 1,200 children with autism spectrum disorders. The ‘We support you’ Foundation has continued its fight to guarantee adequate care and compliance with the rights of affected children.
