Huang Xueqin originally planned to go to the University of Hong Kong to study for a Master of Laws in 2019, but was detained by the Guangzhou police on October 17, 2019 for the crime of “picking quarrels and provoking troubles”. Later, he was changed to designated residence under residential surveillance and was released on bail on January 17, 2020. . This year, Huang Xueqin was supported by the Chevening Scholarship in the United Kingdom, and originally planned to go to the University of Sussex to study for a master’s degree in development on September 20.
