Qinghai Province Prepares for 2024 Spring Festival Transport Work

The 2024 Qinghai Province Spring Festival Transport Work Conference revealed the estimated passenger volume for the 40-day Spring Festival Transport period from January 26 to March 5, 2024. The province is expected to welcome 7 million visitors, with an anticipated year-on-year increase in the number of railway passengers and civil aviation passengers.

Hou Hongbo, deputy director of the Qinghai Provincial Development and Reform Commission and director of the Provincial Railway and Aviation Office, emphasized the unique challenges presented by this year’s Spring Festival Transport. Factors such as the extended toll-free period for passenger cars during the holiday season and the strong desire for people to travel will likely increase the proportion of self-driving trips. Additionally, the transportation of energy supplies, livelihood supplies, and spring plowing preparations will be in high demand, making the task of ensuring transportation services even more arduous.

In preparation for the surge in transportation demand, Qinghai’s transportation authorities and enterprises will allocate transportation capacity in advance to areas and routes with large passenger flows. This will involve increasing the density of vehicles, trains, and flights, with an emphasis on ensuring the connection between highways, railways, civil aviation, and urban buses.

The province will also be focusing on the rapid reporting and forecasting of meteorological information, specifically targeting severe weather such as low temperatures, wind and snow, freezing, and heavy fog. Integration of various travel service information will be used to share travel service information and to prepare for ice removal and emergency rescue.

Safety is a top priority for Qinghai, and the province will be strengthening the prevention and control of various safety risks and hidden danger management. This will involve comprehensive and detailed inspections of stations, airports, and transportation equipment in order to rectify any hidden dangers before the Spring Festival.

Joint law enforcement efforts will also be intensified during the Spring Festival, with a focus on cracking down on illegal activities such as overloading, speeding, and illegal operations. The province also aims to improve the passenger ticket purchase service experience by promoting the application of online ticket purchase and self-service ticket inspection.

In addition, targeted services for key groups will be organized, including young volunteers who will provide guidance and consultation, order maintenance, key assistance, convenience and benefit to the people, and emergency rescue volunteer services.

As Qinghai Province ramps up its preparations for the 2024 Spring Festival Transport, the coordination and targeted initiatives put in place will be crucial in ensuring the safety and efficiency of transportation for the millions of visitors expected to travel during this period.
