Quito Council removes Polit’s decoration

The council of Quito withdrew its decoration from former comptroller Carlos Polit after conviction for money laundering in the United States.

In today’s session, Tuesday, April 30, Metropolitan Council of Quitothe decoration was withdrawn on Great Sebastián de Benalcázar Necklace al Dr. Carlos Polit, former state comptroller. This since a jury of the CUnited States Federal Court based in Miami found guilty of six counts of money laundering from corruption in Ecuador.

Councilman Bernardo Abad declared that the former official should face consequences in both the United States and Ecuador for his participation in acts of corruption. Abad insisted that the city cannot remain indifferent to the international allegations of corruption involving Pólit. In his words, “whoever does it, pays for it.”

Councilor Analia Ledesma explained that international justice has judged the actions of Dr. Pólit and the Municipality has to respect the honor of Quito Due to the international events that have already arisen and that are public knowledge, serious issues of corruption. (EC)
