Railways, the Region has bought two more “Pop” trains

PALERMO «In compliance with the budget in recent months, two other new Pop trains are delivered to Sicily. Thus we rise to fourteen modern trains in service on the main railway lines of the island, a leap in quality that has been expected for years for the quality of the service and the experience of users on the train ». This was stated by the regional councilor for infrastructure Marco Falcone, announcing the delivery by Trenitalia of two other latest generation ‘Pop’ trains, purchased by the Sicilian Region.

The arrival is scheduled for tomorrow in Messina. «We will reach overall – adds Falcone – the number of 21 Pop trains in service in Sicily for an investment wanted by the Musumeci government of over 300 million euros. Travelers already have the opportunity to appreciate them (between Palermo, Messina, Catania and Syracuse) for their efficiency and their comfort that places Sicily on the same level as other less penalized regions. On the one hand we strengthen the rolling stock, on the other we make possible a real relaunch of the railway infrastructures by keeping high attention on the works in the program ».

«This is demonstrated – concludes the commissioner – by the latest assignments of Giampilieri-Fiumefreddo and the reconstruction of the bridge between Caltagirone and Gela. Finally, thanks to Trenitalia, to the national and regional governance of the company, for the commitment and availability expressed daily in the interest of Sicily ».
