The legislative and regional elections scheduled for April 20, 2024 are postponed to a later date. The information was made public through a press release read on April 3 on National Television (TVT).
The decision, we are informed, is the result of a meeting between the Head of State and the office of the National Assembly. “The President of the Republic, attentive to the interest shown by the populations in this important reform and in a spirit of openness and constructive dialogue, encouraged the deputies to remain attentive to all stakeholders concerned in order to take into account all the conclusions,” the press release states. “Consequently, the government will carry out a slight rearrangement of the calendar of the regional legislative elections initially scheduled for April 20, 2024,” adds the text.
Indeed, this decision comes following the reactions of political actors and civil society following the constitutional revision which led to a change of political regime. And subsequently, the return of the text by the Head of State to the National Assembly for a second rereading.
This is a second postponement of the elections previously scheduled to be held on April 13 and then April 20.
