CATANIA – A sober ceremony this morning in Catania for the celebrations of the 75th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Republic took place in two distinct moments.

The Prefect, Maria Carmela Librizzi, first laid a wreath at the Military Memorial of the Church of San Nicola l’Arena, together with the Mayor and the Maritime Director of Eastern Sicily.

Subsequently in Piazza Bellini, in the presence of the civil, military and religious authorities of the province, he celebrated the anniversary with the ceremony of raising the flag and the reading of the message of the President of the Republic, which this year was entrusted to a nurse of the Covid unit at the Acireale Hospital.

The Italian anthem at the beginning of the ceremony was sung by the choir of the “Musicainsieme a Librino” Association directed by Prof. Caltabiano who also performed the song “Freedom” at the end.

The Prefect, in thanking all the authorities who took part, wanted to underline the particular value that the Feast of June 2 takes this year because it demonstrates the importance of the unity of the country in this complex situation and for the start of the recovery.
