Professor Ferlaino’s group, explains a note from the University of Innsbruck, “was able to observe in the laboratory some quantum phenomena whose experimental verification had long been awaited, including the observation of a particular minimum point in the spectrum of excitation of the system, called rotone, and, simultaneously with two other groups, the observation of a new phase of matter called supersolidity ». “Now our goal is to go even further with rare earth condensates, also using their internal structure and degrees of freedom,” says the researcher. Francesca Ferlaino is an Italian physicist, born in Naples, currently professor of atomic physics at the experimental physics department of the University of Innsbruck. In her career, she has received numerous awards and will now receive her third ERC grant, following the “Starting Grant” (2010) and the “Consolidator Grant” (2016).
