There is concern in the world of vallenato, about the state of Egidio Cuadrado, Vallenato King of the year 1985 and running mate of the singer Carlos Vives, after undergoing surgery at the Foscal Clinic in Bucaramanga.
The musician, originally from Villanueva, has been accompanied by Carlos Vives and his wife Claudia Elena Vives, during this medical process. According to national media, the musician is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the clinic, and a biopsy was performed, the results of which are still pending.
In the last six months, Egidio Cuadrado has experienced a notable weight loss, which has surprised his followers when they see recent images. The musician’s state of health has generated speculation and concern among those who admire his contribution to the world of vallenato music.
The Vallenato community has shown its concern and on social networks they have sent messages of solidarity to the teacher, from whom they expect encouraging news and a speedy recovery.
“Carlos Vives is everything to me. A brother and a true friend. The one who has always been by my side in good times, and also when I was in very poor health due to Covid. It is the best thing that has happened to me in the musical and personal field,” said Egidio in an interview recently offered to a national media.
Egidio Cuadrado was born on February 26, 1953 in the municipality of Villanueva, La Guajira. He is the son of Agustín Cuadrado and Cristina Hinojosa, from whose union Egidio, Heber, José and Dina Luz were born.
Dina Luz married Rafael Escalona and would become the muse of numerous Vallenato songs.
Egidio began playing the accordion from a very young age, at the age of 6. He participated in the accordion competitions of the Patronal Folkloric Festival of his native Villanueva in its beginnings, an event that preceded the Cuna de Acordeones Festival in Villanueva.
