A few days ago, a passer-by in Wendland discovered a stork in a helpless situation. A rubber ring closed his beak and he couldn’t eat or drink. Now the stork representative is nursing him.
White stork “Bruno” is now doing better again. The bird ate well, but digestion still needs to get going, said the responsible stork representative for the Lüchow-Dannenberg district, Antje Fäseke, on Wednesday.
Stork “Bruno” probably put the ring on his beak while pecking for food – and was unable to remove it himself. Stork at least three days without water and food
After an initial attempt to catch it on Monday, it was only on Tuesday that she managed to catch the stork using a net and remove the ring over its beak, she told NDR Lower Saxony. At this point, “Bruno” was already too exhausted to escape. The bird hadn’t eaten or drank for at least three days because it could no longer open its beak.
Storch should be released in a few days
According to her own information, the stork representative first took the emaciated bird to a veterinarian. Now “Bruno” can regain his strength in an outdoor enclosure with her. “I’m trying to do it calmly,” said Fäseke. “And that he has his corner where he is all alone.” Since birds are naturally very shy of people, the stork needs a lot of space. She wants to release the animal again in a few days.
Further information
The storks find enough food in the meadows in the area. This year there are especially a lot of mice. (05/26/2023) more
