The German Armed Forces have denounced the constant presence of suspicious drones of Russian origin over their military installations and training areas, especially where Ukrainian military personnel are trained. The situation, reported by BILD am Sonntag, highlights the activity of these devices, which consistently fly over training areas, such as the Klietz military camp west of Berlin, where Ukrainian troops are trained in the use of Leopard 1 tanks.
A military spokesperson has stated that “drones with cameras consistently fly over training areas,” and defense experts note that the activity appears to be clearly organized and directed toward Russia. Defense expert Marcus Faber highlights that in some places the simultaneous entry of several drones into the airspace is observed, underlining the possible coordination behind these incidents.
Following these reports, Germany formed a working group in November 2022 to address these threats and define anti-drone defense protocols. However, two months later, there are still no tangible results on defense systems and their procurement. The situation, which does not appear to be random, according to Faber, reinforces Germany’s need to strengthen its surveillance and countermeasure capabilities against possible espionage or sabotage purposes.
