MILAN. After having obtained compensation of half a million euros, the 99 riders who were civil party in the Milanese trial concerning the investigation of the GdF and the prosecutor Paolo Storari on the alleged illicit intermediation and the exploitation of the work of the cycle-messengers of the Uber service Eats. This is what emerged from the hearing in which the judge of the ninth criminal court of the Mariolina Panasiti court took note of the revocation of the constitutions in the ordinary process in which a suspended manager of Uber Italy is accused and the company itself is civilly liable.
Already last October, with the shortened sentence for Giuseppe Moltini, one of the managers of the brokerage companies involved, the gup Teresa De Pascale had converted a seizure of about 500 thousand euros into cash, ordered in the investigations, into a compensation of 10 thousand euros each for 44 bicycle messengers, assisted by lawyers Giulia Druette, Maurizio Riverditi, Sergio Bonetto, Gianluca Vitale and Laura Martinelli, for a total of 440 thousand euros. Following the investigation, on May 29, 2020, the Italian branch of Uber was commissioned. Judicial administration, then, revoked in March 2021 by the judges of the Prevention Measures Section after the recognition of the “virtuous” path undertaken by the company.
As emerged from the investigation by the economic-financial police unit of the Fiamme Gialle in Milan, the riders were “paid at a piece rate of 3 euros”, “robbed” of tips and “punished” with a reduction in fees if they did not comply with the rules. At the moment, the CGIL and the Milanese Chamber of Labor remain civil parties in the process. Since also the two trade unions have been looking for an agreement for the compensation of the damage and to revoke their constitution. The trial was postponed to next May 20 for the opening of the trial with the first witnesses for the prosecution.
