Members of the Judicial Police Squad in the city of Nador, in coordination with the interests of the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance, were able, on Saturday morning, to arrest sixteen people active within a criminal network involved in the international trade in stolen cars, counterfeiting and its use.
Hespress sources explained that this security operation was carried out in a group of rural areas on the outskirts of the cities of Nador, Driouch and Ibn Tayeb, and resulted in the arrest of suspects suspected of being involved in forging legal documents, metal plates for serial numbers, and car license plates, and disposing of them illegally for the benefit of criminal networks.
The same sources added that inspections carried out inside warehouses exploited by the suspects enabled the seizure of 69 cars of various types and categories, in addition to the seizure of forged number plates and 220 engines, in addition to spare parts, keys, documents and plates for vehicle manufacturers.
The inspections also enabled “the seizure of three hunting rifles, 33 bullets, and a group of computers and mobile phones, in addition to equipment for storing digital data, printing devices, equipment for forging vehicle license plates, and sums of money in national and foreign currency suspected of being the proceeds of this criminal activity.”
Hespress sources confirmed that the process of filtering the suspects into the National Security database showed that one of them was the subject of several nationwide search warrants issued by the judicial police and the Royal Gendarmerie in the cities of Laayoune, Agadir and Nador, on suspicion of his involvement in similar cases related to international trafficking in stolen cars.
It is noteworthy that the suspects were subjected to judicial investigation, which was supervised by the competent public prosecution. This is to identify the remaining possible extensions of this criminal activity, as well as to arrest the rest of those supposedly involved in committing these criminal acts.
