ROME. In small municipalities – under 5,000 inhabitants – mayors will be able to lead the city for three consecutive terms. Green light today, by the Senate, to the provision that provides for changes to the consolidated text referred to in Legislative Decree 18 August 2000, n. 267, concerning the limitation of the mandate of the auditors and management control in the smaller municipalities, as well as the legislative decree 8 April 2013, n. 39, regarding the non-transferability of offices in private entities under public control.

There were 190 yeses, no votes against and 23 abstentions. The provision, already dismissed by the Chamber, therefore becomes law. In fact, there is a differentiated regulation between small and large Municipalities: for those with a number of inhabitants equal to or greater than 5,000, the limit of two consecutive mandates continues to apply. The modification of article 51 of the consolidated act of local authorities applies to the mandate of the mayor, the president of the province and the councils.
